November 15 .....

Last night I was sick ... it all caught up with me

The last week had been very busy.  I think it all caught up with me.  About 7:30pm I felt terrible and decided to head home
after dinner with my two boys.

Backtracking .... over the last week I had run around downtown L.A and Hollywood with my boys on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday night I was with a friend who was in from out of town.

Monday ... geeze, I don't even remember what I did on Monday but I know I did something.

Tuesday, Brad Paisley and Chad Weaver were in town and Dan Boul from 65amps and I met Chad for dinner after they
finished shooting Dancing with the Stars which was shown on TV that night.  I felt sorry for Chad as his plane back to
Nashville left after midnight with a two hour layover in Dallas.  When it landed in Nashville Chad had to hit the ground
running as the ACM award show was being shot in Nashville.

Lots of dinners and hanging out with friends all week it seems.

Wednesday I was with Nicole and Rebecca for the evening and had dinner.  Being around Nicole is always a drain.

Thursday I went to dinner with Emily which was not a drain :)

Friday I went to have dinner with my kids but about 6:30pm I stated feeling like crap.  I left a little before 8pm as I felt as if I
was coming down with something and thought I may have a fever.  I thought I better get some juice in the bus on the way
home so stopped in Sherman Oaks off the 101.  I had two phone messages and one was from Rebecca who had been
staying with Nicole.  The two of them told me to come there if I was sick and they had juice.

It turns out that I did have a fever of 103.  Not much of a worry as when I get overly tired or run down I run a fever and that
had been the case since I was a very young child.

I drank some juice and went to sleep about 9:30pm.

This morning I felt fine ... fever was gone.  Just needed a bit of sleep.

In a little while I am heading off to Marina Del Rey with Rebecca to take her sailing on a boat over at the Ritz Carlton with
another friend of mine Mya Scott who is a heck of a sailor.  I think we will be on a boat called a J109 which I like a lot.  I also
want to try to visit Eric and Robin Lambert, two of my closest friends that go back decades at this point and Gerry Purcell a
very longtime friend who owns Purcell Yacht and Ship Brokers. ( www.purcellyachts.com ).  Gerry has been something of my
mentor and mental health rock for twenty years.  Eric Lambert by the way was one of two best men at my second wedding
and was the one who introduced me to my second wife.

So .... with my personal life battery recharged I am off again for the day and evening.
Still November 15th ...  I am back from the Marina and the Getty

Well ... I am back for a while today and wanted to upload some of this stuff before I go back out for dinner.

We left this morning and headed to Marina Del Rey ... dropped in to visit a good friend in the yacht brokerage business .... went over to the Ritz Carlton to see a
friend who works there ... grabbed a boat and went sailing for a little while ... not a lot of wind and it was hot ... came back to the hotel for a snack ... met some
more folks that I did not know.

We left the marina and on the way back to drop my friend off so she could get cleaned up for dinner we first stopped at The Getty Museum for a little while.

I dropped off my friend, came back to the bus, uploaded the pix from the day and after I clean up myself I will go back and pick my friend up for dinner.
This photo has nothing to
do with today ... it was in
my camera from a while
ago.  Here we see Sam
Austin, obviously sad and
expressing his feelings on
the results of Prop 8.
Not a lot of traffic on
the 405 heading to
MDR on a Saturday
morning.  It was already
quite warm and I would
have expected more
beach traffic.
The Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey.  I wanted to introduce my friend Rebecca
from out of town to my friend Mya who I sail with and who is a good friend.
She works at the hotel.  This was shot on Admiralty Way just before pulling in
to the hotel.  They used to let me park right in front when I drove a pristine
BMW 635CSi that had a SIEMENS license plate on the front.  Not anymore.  I
parked my Scion XB over at Marina City Club where it was free :) rather than
pay hotel valet tip charges.  I could have parked in an employee area but I
had forgotten my sticker.  The J109 in the right two shots is a fun boat for a
morning or afternoon sail.
I have no idea who
these people are but
they were at the Ritz
Carlton and were fun to
talk to.
The painting below was
done in 1408 if I recall

Later in the evening back to Hollywood and the Kodak Theater.

Saturday, November 15, 2008  Back home after a last minute gig

Well ... I am back home (on the bus), hopefully for the evening.  After last night when I was totally burned out I told myself I would take it easy for the next day
or two but as things turned out it seems that my own advice was not followed.

After coming home in the afternoon from a day of visiting friends, sailing and going to the Getty center I took a shower, changed clothes, hung out with Dan
at the shop for a bit and went back over to Nicole's to pick up Rebecca for dinner.

We were on our way to dinner when I got a contract call.  I am now on call with a few places ... Third Encore, Tour Supply, Gibson Amphitheater and Kodak
Theater.  They needed a FOH fill in at the Kodak Theater or some sort of audio assistance and the pay was pretty good for less than two hours of work so ... what
the heck?  Rebecca thought it would be fun and this was a bit different than other things in the music side of my life that I have taken her to so it seemed to
be a good idea.  It would also pay for dinner (as it turned out dinner was free) and would play for new glasses for one of my kids that I had paid for a week or
two ago.

During the evening the United States Air Force Band was putting on a show and I was able to meet George Carganilla.  He was the sax player in the band, the
music director and as it turned out, he is a teacher for LAUSD ... instrumental music instructor at Pacoima Middle School which is pretty darn local to my area.

George let me take a few photos of his instuments with my horrible cell phone camera and he took one of me with a real camera which he will be emailing to
me.  I always try to get photos of saxophones for my son Graham, a sax player that performed at the Kodak Theater with the LAUSD Honors Band earlier this
year.

I asked him if he knew Mr. Tremonti at the school where my youngest son goes to school and is in band and jazz band.  He said he knew him.  We exchanged
contact information and hopefully I will be able to help him out in the future as he was a very cool guy and a great musician.
Please excuse all the awful photos ... the best I
could do with a cell phone camera with no flash.

George is on the sax.  He had a "real camera" and
got a shot of his rig for my son.  Unfortunately I was
in the photo :)
Sunday November 16th ....

This all started with an email from Mark Horne ... coming in from Nashville

I just received a letter from Mark Horne.  He is a guitarist from Nashville who has been with Trace Adkins and others.  He also drives a tour bus.  This was the
dialogue.  It looks like Tuesday through Thursday will be busy days for me.  If there are other folks that want to go on a tour of L.A. maybe on Wednesday or drop by
the 65amps shop that day let me know.

Mark,

I am sending a copy of this to Dan Boul, the head dude here at 65amps.  I do not think there will be a problem at all.

As far as washing ... I just washed off my own rig an hour ago.  I have a hose and good nozzle but little else but you are welcome to it.

See below for more ....

hey myles.

i'm leaving for l.a. monday morning from nashville.  i anticipate arriving tuesday night.  is it ok for me to park @ 65 for wednesday and leave out sometime thursday
evening?

I will be here all day Tuesday and will also be at 65amps Tuesday night.  You can call me at 1-818-xxx-xxxx anytime on Tuesday and keep me updated.  If your rig is a
45 foot Prevost you will not make the swing on the west side of the building but it is a straight in shot from the narrow (but I fit and so to semi rigs) on the east side.
Come in from Laurel Canyon or Lankershim so you are west of us so it is easier to make the left hand turn with more room into the driveway to the parking lot.
Once you are in the lot there is plenty of space to turn around to head out straight or you can back in or back out ... your option.

i don't need any service on the bus as you offered.......that's too kind, but i do need to wash the bus.  i've been in the rain and snow all weekend in the northeast.  if
water is a premium, i will stop in barstow and have it washed.  doesn't matter to me, i just have to get it done before i pick up my people on thursday night.

Like I said above ... no problem if you want to try it here with limited equipment that we have here.

i'm up for anything.  i try to stay out of the way and have a couple of friends that i am going to visit with.

Stay out of the way?  No way!  I will take you and anybody else that wants to tag along on a bit of a tour of the area.  I also will make sure that you and anybody else
get to play with the latest amps and even some prototypes.

in leu of you servicing my transmission and main engine(hah!), could i toss my fender prosonic that blows the fuse in my bay and have you check the tubes to see if
that is the problem?

Sure ... but my tube tester is currently in Hawaii so I cannot test them but what I can do is just put in a new set and if things do not blow then I'd set the bias and in
the end we would know it was the tubes.

my goal would be to have a liquidation sale and eventually buy a 65.

I think Dan Boul takes payments if it is an artist deal :)

i am leaving, hopefully @ 4am and going as far as i can, crashing somewhere and coming on in tuesday.  i check my email often while driving(yea, i know), so i'll
keep in touch.

Feel free to email or call.

thank's
mark horne
So .... Tuesday night Mark arrived and starting Wednesday this is now things went....

Mark Horne, Jedd Hughes and Travis Howard

Well ... I don't really know where to begin but things have been busy since last night when Mark Horne arrived driving the Trace Adkins tour bus.  He made it from
Nashville to Los Angeles in two days.  Pretty great time and pretty great driving.

Mark Horne is a great guitarist as some of you may know ... Trace Adkins etc., and is currently on tour with Trace Adkins, Alan Jackson and James Otto ... I think it is
James ... not sure.

So... Mark pulls in about 9:30pm Tuesday night and we just hang out for the night and talk about whatever. ... music, non-music, life, travel, places out there and
more life.
and ... good morning
Mark.

Yes ... Mark does have
as many "looks" as a
Hollywood actor ....

The look to the right ...
first thing in the
morning.... coffee
The infamous bed scene from the Miranda
Lambert video from the song Kerosene.
This is the scene where Miranda catches
Travis with another girl with her guy and
proceeds to burn down his house in the
video.  Travis writes many of her songs.
Mark in the 65amps shop
checking out some amps
Joe Bourdet ... 65amps

I am not sure why I put
him here but he was in
this group of pictures :)
This shot is really for my
kids ...yeah, big screen
TV and PS2 in the bus.
The other bus has PS3 as
a side note.
.... and here is Jedd Hughes.  Darn amazing
guitarist.  He was with Keith Urban for a long time
but plays with a lot of folks and has his own band.
Check his website out at
www.jeddhughes.com ...
pretty stellar player.  The Gretsch he is playing
belongs to Dan Boul and Jedd and I worked
together for a little while so I could set up the
guitar pickups specifically for his style and touch.
He and Carl Verheyen have the widest range of
playing dynamics measured on my test rig and that
means he has a wider vocabulary of touch and
dynamics than just about any other player around
and I have measured a number of folks.  In some
technical ways this might suggest that he plays
with more dynamics and expression than most
other people out there.  As a point to compare ...
heavy metal players have a very narrow range of
dynamics typically.
Okay ... who is this?
Travis Howard.  Who is
Travis Howard?  Well ....
the writer of many of
Miranda Lamberts hit
songs for one thing.
Guitarist for another ....
and actor.  More at his
own myspace page at
www.myspace.com/travi
showard and he also has
a cool website at
www.travishoward.com

Millions of you have seen
Travis or are aware of his
house being burned
down.  Yes, Miranda
Lambert burned down
his house in front of
millions .... this is Travis in

Friday November 21 2008

A recap of today .... a typical day in many ways

It is Friday night and I am back for a little while before heading out again.  Today has been a busy day for the most part.  Nothing earth shattering … mostly day to
day stuff.

Mark Horne left last night about 7:30pm to head to LAX to pick up the band and Trace Adkins.  I guess all went well as I did not hear from him regarding problems.

It turns out that Joe at the shop had his date with Emily last night.  Sam was kidding him about it yesterday afternoon.  I think Sam kept asking Joe if Emily had
called to cancel their date yet and I think Sam may have been doing this over and over because at one point I think Joe got more than a bit annoyed.  In the
end though, it looks like Joe and Emily had a nice time from his point of view.  I will ask Emily how things went.

Ashley and I talked.  She got her TV show so that was good news.  Her own model agency is growing and doing fine.  I filled her in on what I had told the financial
people where she needed me to be a reference.

I talked to one dentist and found out they are a PPO provider on dental insurance but are not in the DHMO plan.  The other dentist is not open on Friday so I will
have to call next week.  This is the sort of stuff my ex-wife used to do but she had been busy with other things so I was trying to lend a hand.

I think Sam went over to Third Encore to pick up the Kings Head bass amp and London which were being used by Daniel Powter.

Dan and I went to Drum City to pick up a few things.  Earlier in the day Dan bought a new and larger kick drum for the kit at the shop.  In his attempt to cut a hole
in the head he …. Well .. he sort of messed it up.  Brian came over from Bogner and tuned everything up as Dan also bought new heads for the kit and that was
long overdue.  The kit gets a lot of use at the 65amps parties.

Travis Howard (www.travishoward.com) dropped by today to pick up an amp to use on his latest project.  I moved Travis to my top friends list on myspace as he
is just a crack up in so many ways and has no problem when I pick on him J

I picked Rebecca up at the Burbank airport about 6:45pm.  Her flight arrived on time and I was there a little early while she got her stuff organized.  We went
directly to dinner from the airport and she took me to a friend of hers named Katrina.  Rebecca and Katrina talked me into having a "makeover".  About 30
minutes were attempted on my body which is way too far gone for any type of overhaul, even a major overhaul.  Being over the halfway mark toward a century
on this planet has taken its toll no matter what the doctor found at my last physical back in July 2008.

Maybe I have the pulse and heart rate of a 35 year old but I think the basic chassis is still getting along in years J  As you will surmise from the photo below I have
been talked into attending a "wellness party" on Sunday where they are going to see what they can do to me when it comes to skin care, hair and who knows
what else!  I was told there will be wine there so perhaps it can be a very amusing time after six glasses of wine?  Most of you that know me might find it strange
that I agreed to this treatment but I have been doing my best to try new things far outside of my comfort envelope which most would say is already a pretty
wide envelope but … why not take a shot at it?

It is funny to look back over the years when Natalie would ask me if I wanted her to try any of her skin care products on me, that they were refreshing and I might
like them.  I always passed.  Moving to the present I find myself letting two girls smear stuff all over me and set me up for a "wellness" session.  Hmmm …. Times
change, people change and my environment is always changing these days.

I dropped Rebecca off in Sherman Oaks so she could change clothes and get organized or do whatever girls do after an airplane flight even it is less than a 90
minute flight.  I will go and pick her back up at 10:30 tonight and we will go to hear a bit of music and get a drink or two in the Sherman Oaks area.  I don't know
where I will be staying tonight.  Maybe on the bus or maybe Sherman Oaks.  I prefer the bus as it is home.  When I was in Flagstaff for almost a week at a friend's
house, halfway through the first night I moved (at 4am) from the guest room at his house back out to my motorhome.  My "bus" as I refer to it has become what
boats have been to me and I am very comfortable, more so than in a house or anyplace where I cannot touch the ceiling.

When I was married and lived in a house, my wife at the time had always had an interest in antiques.  We had a double bed.  Now I have a queen size bed.  I had
three drawers for my clothes.  Now I have over a dozen.  I had no closet of my own.  Now I have three closets.  I have more storage space in my bathroom on the
bus than I had at home and the shower is bigger on the bus than it was in the house.  It will survive an earthquake of over 12 on the Rictor Scale (I have hit
bumps in the road that have tested that concept) and I know where every part of the plumbing and electrical systems reside and how to fix them myself.  I am
self contained if I wish to be and can live for well over a month with no hookups for water, electricity or most anything other than food.  Yes … very much like a
boat with the added advantage of being able to stop and meet new people as I move along from one place to another.

I miss being on the road.  It has been a few weeks and with the holidays on the near horizon I may be locked in SoCal for a bit.  Thanksgiving is next week and
being with my kids and my own family in on the schedule.  Once Thanksgiving is behind me I plan to take off again for a while.  I am not sure where I will be
headed but heading North up the California coast is an option I am considering but I am open to other thoughts and ideas.

Well … I have to blast out of here and pick up my friend.

There was a big party this evening for the release of Jim Elyea's new Vox Book.  If you want to get the finest Vox book that has ever been produced or probably
ever will be produced head to
www.voxguidebook.com  I will be attending the book release party this evening but the advance copies that I have been
through are nothing short of spectacular.  The prints alone would be a masterpiece on their own.

The photos below are from the party.  These first ones are mostly ones I took and are not very good.  There will be more later that I will put over here in this area
that were taken by Sarah Austin and a few other folks.  Great music, great food, open bar and a antique British bus that gave rides to all.  It was a total hit for all.
When was the last time
you saw one of these?
Sam Austin ...
goofy guy
Sarah Austin and Patrick
Selfridge.  Sarah is a
great photographer and
Patrick is a very cool
guy I have known for
years.
Lovely Sarah and goofy
Sam.  Yes ... Sam was the
inspiration for Sarah
using the phrase ... you
can dress him up but you
can't take him anywhere
I think I have seen
the guy on the right
at the Ampshow?

took the stage to play
If you add up the age of
these two characters
the years would total
over a century :)
I will have ask
Sarah Austin ...

Is it possible for
Sam NOT to look
goofy in every
photo?
Rather than duplicate photos and commentary and have this page grow I will be putting all the latest info on my myspace blog.  You
