Some tube notes that may be of help:

Dr. Z amps are shipped in many cases with Groove Tubes in some areas of the amplifiers.  In the case of
power tubes, Dr. Z recommends ratings of 5-6 on the GT scale.

Dr. Z also selects specific types of tubes in the front ends in some cases.  These are noted with the GT
(Groove Tubes) part number, but I will also show other names that the tube may be known by.

One duet (2) GT-6V6R  (Electro Harmonix 6V6EH)*

*These tubes (the Electro Harmonix / GT-6V6R) handle very high voltages for a 6V6 type tube.  The Z28 does not operate at very
high voltages compared to some modern 6V6 amps, but the amp was designed around this great sounding EH produced tube.
Personally, I also have heard many types of NOS 6V6 tubes in this amp with great results.  This amp sounds pretty spectacular
with any 6V6.

Route 66 Head:    $1499
V1 EF86 Pentode (also known as 6267)
V2 GT-12AX7R2   (Sovtek 12AX7LPS)
One duet (2) GT-KT66HP #5 - #6 *
5AR4 (GZ34)  Rectifier
*These are only available from Groove Tubes as they are GT's tooling and design.  The Chinese KT66 tubes from Sino do not have
the same GEC response curve as the HP.

KT-45 Head:   $1499
V1 EF86 Pentode (also known as 6267)
V2 GT-12AX7R2   (Sovtek 12AX7LPS)
One duet (2) GT-E34LS #5 - #6 *
5AR4 (GZ34)  Rectifier
*These are only available from Groove Tubes as they are GT's tooling and design.   These are from the JJ factory, but off GT
developed tooling.  They have more plate mass than other EL34 tubes, including the JJ E34L.  Visually they are identified by heat
sink wings on the plate assembly.  These are 30 watt tubes.  All other EL34 and E34L tubes are 25 watt tubes.

NOTE:  IT HAS BEEN MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE THAT STAYING WITH THE FACTORY BIAS SETTINGS YIELD THE BEST RESULTS.  THESE AMP ARE
BIASED AT THE FACTORY FOR AROUND 28 MILLIAMPS.  IF YOU DO THE MATH ON THESE AMPS AT THEIR PLATE VOLTAGE, AND TAKE INTO
ACCOUNT THE 30 WATT EL34 RATHER THAN A 25 WATT EL34 TUBE, YOU MAY FIND THAT THE AMP SEEMS TO BE OVERBIASED AND WOULD RUN
TOO COLD.  I DO NOT RECOMMEND RUNNING THE AMP HOTTER VIA A BIAS ADJUSTMENT.  WHAT HAPPENS IN THAT CASE IS THE AMP LOOSES TOO
MUCH CROSSOVER NOTCH DISTORTION.  THIS IS ALSO A COMMON SIDE EFFECT IN MARSHALL AMPS SET TO HIGH IN IDLE CURRENT.  PART OF
THE CRUNCH IN THIS AMP, IN HIWATT AMPS, AND MARSHALL AMPS IS THE CROSSOVER NOTCH DISTORTION.  THE KT-45 HAS VERY HIGH CLEAN
HEADROOM.  RUNNING THE IDLE HIGHER JUST RAISES THIS, WEARS TUBES MUCH FASTER, AND MAKES AMPS HARSH AT SOME SETTINGS.  I
ALSO RECOMMEND ON THE Z28 AND ROUTE 66, STAYING WITHIN THE FACTORY BIAS SETTINGS.  IF YOU REPLACE OUTPUT TUBES WITH THE SAME
TUBE TYPE AND THE SAME RATING, A BIAS IS NOT NECESSARY WHEN USING GROOVE TUBES REPLACEMENTS IF THIS IS WHAT WAS SUPPILED IN
THE AMP FROM THE FACTORY.

5AR4 (GZ34)  Rectifier or Solid State plug in rectifier.   When changing to a solid state rectifier if not stock in the amp, please
check and ajust the bias as there will be higher B+ (plate) voltage.
